Wolfgang NAPP – Founder and visionary
What is MIDAS Metall ®
MIDAS Metall® is based on this legend. This Liquid-metal Finishing is the original coating technology from Germany that creates a second skin on various surfaces.
The unique composition consists of a mixture of metal powder and a special binder (Artifex 1.2, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0 or 6.0), which makes it possible to apply liquid metal to surfaces such as wood, concrete, plaster, metal, plastic and even glass and let it harden into a real metal surface. It can be used in a variety of ways by architects, designers, craftsmen and artisans.
Usage and application
Processing and finishing
For this reason, the Liquid-metal Finishing is carried out by qualified specialists who have undergone special training. The application company carries out the necessary surface preparation, applies the coating precisely and grinds the surface several times to achieve the desired result. This guarantees that MIDAS Metall® is applied in a durable and sustainable manner.
The end results are characterised by their quality and uniqueness, which patinate naturally or are resistant to abrasion, scratches and chemical influences with additional coating.
THE STORY
In 2005, a new foundation stone was laid for surface finishing and MIDAS Metall® Liquid-metal Finishing was invented by Wolfgang Napp. This innovative process changed the way metals could be treated and applied, offering unprecedented versatility and quality. Liquid-metal Finishing made it possible to create surfaces that were not only aesthetically superior to normal metal panels, but also extremely durable and sustainable. This groundbreaking development opened up new possibilities for designers and craftsmen in various industries.
Building on the success of the original invention, a full product range of eight different metal alloys was developed in 2006. This expansion was critical to demonstrate the versatility and application potential of MIDAS Metall® Liquid-metal Finishing. The product line was targeted at a variety of industries, including architecture, interior design and artisan fabrication. By offering multiple metal alloys, MIDAS Surfaces GmbH was able to meet the specific needs and preferences of a broad customer base and establish its position in the market. The diverse range of surface finishes provided architects and designers the opportunity to realize unique, high-quality projects.
MIDAS Surfaces GmbH was officially founded on May 4, 2007. This milestone was accompanied by the market launch under the brand name "MIDAS Metall®". The launch was supported by the first training program, which provided users with the knowledge and skills to use the new products effectively. These training courses were an important part of MIDAS Surfaces GmbH's strategy to ensure that its customers could derive maximum benefit from the innovative metal finishes. The positive response to the launch and training programs laid the foundation for the company's future success. The success was quickly reflected, for example, in the realisation of the Ellington Hotel project in Berlin, MIDAS Metall® Brass 3.0 for the hotel counter and reception desk.
2008 was another milestone in the history of MIDAS Surfaces GmbH. Following the successful launch of the "MIDAS Metall®" brand and the first major awards in 2007, the company was awarded the "Marktlücke" start-up prize by a German newspaper group the following year. This award honors companies that open up new markets with their innovative ideas and business models and thus make a significant contribution to the economic development of the region.
Participation in the Bau trade fair in Munich In January 2009, MIDAS Surfaces GmbH took part in the renowned Bau trade fair in Munich, which was held from January 12 to 17. This trade fair is one of the world's leading events for architecture, materials and systems and provided an ideal platform for presenting the innovative products of MIDAS Metall® to an international audience. Another highlight of 2009 was the awarding of the AIT Innovation Prize for Architecture and Construction to Midas Surfaces GmbH. Development of the aqueous dispersion "MIDAS Metall Artifex" 2009 was also a year of significant technological progress for Midas Surfaces GmbH. The company developed the aqueous dispersion "MIDAS Metall Artifex". This innovation represented a significant expansion of the product portfolio and offered additional application possibilities for Liquid-metal Finishing, e.g. for example the realisation of the Tashkent Congress Center project (Uzbekistan), where large wall surfaces were coated with a MIDAS Metall® special alloy "Tashkent"
The innovative products and projects attracted the attention of the press in 2012 again. MIDAS Surfaces GmbH was mentioned in an article in the renowned German trade journal "Detail". This publication is known for its detailed reports and analyses in the field of construction, and it is an honour that the company's work was recognised there. In addition, an article about MIDAS Surfaces GmbH appeared in the magazin "Freelounge Fachmagazin", which further increased its visibility in the public eye and gave it the opportunity to present its innovative solutions to a wider audience. The MIDAS Metall® product was successfully installed in the Jewish bath MIKWE in Erfurt. This project emphasises the company's ability to deliver elegant and durable surface solutions for demanding environments. Another highlight was a project in Japan, which was featured in the renowned interior magazine "Wall Design" from Japan. This international recognition demonstrates the global reach and high standard of MIDAS Surfaces GmbH's products and services.
The market launch of the new alloys "Steel B50", "Jura", "Platinum", "Champagne", "Bronze antique rustic" and "Gold bronze" in 2014 underlined MIDAS Surfaces GmbH's commitment to continuously developing innovative and high-quality products. These new alloys significantly expanded the range of applications and enabled the company to respond even better to the diverse needs and preferences of its customers. Through this strategic expansion of its portfolio, MIDAS Surfaces GmbH consolidated its position as a leading supplier of metal finishing solutions and set new standards in the industry.
In 2016, MIDAS Surfaces GmbH took part in the Farbe trade fair in Munich. The stand was an outstanding success and attracted many visitors. A particular highlight of the stand was a sprayed brass pear 3.0, which was sold immediately. Due to the high demand, this exhibit was reproduced for the showroom in Leinefelde-Worbis. After the successful trade fair appearance, the exhibition stand was set up and furnished in the final showroom in Nordhäuser Straße. This showroom can still be visited today and presents the latest innovations and products from MIDAS Surfaces GmbH. The participation in the Farbe trade fair and the establishment of the new showroom in Nordhäuser Strasse underline MIDAS Surfaces GmbH's commitment to further strengthening its presence and visibility in the industry and making its products accessible to a wider audience.
