Is MIDAS Metall® suitable for use in wet environments?
With our binder systems 3.0, 1.2, and 6.0, we provide binder systems that can be used in wet areas. It is advisable to seal the MIDAS Metall® surface with a protective lacquer in these cases.
How can I ensure that my surface or base material is suitable for MIDAS Metall®?
The surface must be firm, load-bearing, and free from release agents. The surface must be non-absorbent, grease-free, and dry.
Manufacturer recommendation:
· Q3 quality for filled surfaces
· Q4 quality for smooth surfaces
Are there any specific preparations required before applying MIDAS Metall®?
• For Artifex 2.0 and 2.1, use water-based fillers, or for Artifex 3.0, use solvent-based fillers to maintain consistency within the system.
• Ensure the surface is no longer absorbent and that any unevenness has been removed.
• Check for remaining imperfections using control black powder.
• Begin sanding the edges and surface with 240-grit sandpaper no more than half an hour before applying MIDAS Metall® (fresh sanding with a sanding block and orbital sander).
• Clean the surface again to ensure it is free of dust.
• Note: The surface must have a certain level of hardness to support the genuine metal skin.
How can I repair damaged areas of MIDAS Metall®?

Generally, painted or sprayed surfaces cannot be repaired as it may lead to visible edges. However, surfaces that are plastered or textured can be better repaired. The outcome depends on the expertise of the individual doing the repair work.
Can I apply MIDAS Metall® on vertical surfaces?
The consistency of MIDAS Metall® allows for safe and reliable application on vertical surfaces such as walls, columns, claddings, and other architectural elements. The viscosity of the MIDAS Metall® mixture is formulated to adhere to vertical surfaces and enable even coating. To achieve optimal results, it’s important to properly prepare the surface before applying MIDAS Metall®, ensuring it’s clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and other contaminants. What role does room temperature play in the application of MIDAS Metall®?

Is MIDAS Metall® suitable for applications in bathrooms?
In this case, the specific application should be described in detail. For example, on furniture fronts, coverings, or wall coatings that do not come directly into contact with water, the application of all our binder systems is generally possible. Can I use MIDAS Metall® on plastered walls?
Applying on plastered walls is generally possible. However, it is recommended for indoor use only. The walls should have a smooth surface without texture (Q3 or Q4 quality). Are there any limitations regarding the shape and design when applying MIDAS Metall®?

Is MIDAS Metall® suitable for use in outdoor areas with extreme weather conditions?
For this purpose, our binder systems 3.0, 1.2, and 6.0 are suitable. It’s important for outdoor application that the surface is not expandable. Therefore, the coating is only feasible on concrete or stone surfaces. The application in outdoor areas must be assessed and decided upon by the application specialist.
Can I use MIDAS Metall® on already rusty surfaces?
No, this application should be avoided as the rust may interact with the coated MIDAS Metall® and cause patination or rusting.
How can I ensure that the surface or base material is well-prepared before applying MIDAS Metall®?
By following our technical data sheets and guidelines. Generally, in the painting trade, for textured surfaces, the surface should be prepared to Q3 quality. For sprayed applications, it should be prepared to Q4 quality. In carpentry, for textured surfaces, the surface should always be filled, and for sprayed applications, it should be prepared similar to creating a high-gloss finish. How can I ensure that the coating with MIDAS Metall® is durable?
Since MIDAS Metall® end products, in their applied state, have a metal content of approximately 90-95%, the surface should only be cleaned with a dry cloth or dust-binding cloth. Any type of liquid accelerates patination. All our products are characterized by high-quality metal alloys and binder systems. Our products are designed to last up to 50 years or longer.
